Do Video Games Breed Violent People?

You hear it on the news, you read about it in magazines and papers, and it's the accepted word on the street - our society is becoming increasingly violent, and this is largely due to video games. People often point at the selection of wear related, or violence related video games and in one fell swoop, tarnish all video games as causing nothing but a decrease in the moral standard of our society, and with the same sweep, tarnish all young people who play these games as either actual or potential thugs, who will do little more than hang around on street corners mugging people, or causing other distressful crimes.

Although at first glance it would appear that statistics offered by these people appear to bear testimony to what they say, on closer examination it becomes very quickly apparent that the truth is much farther from this portrayal of it......

It is a fact that the accident and emergency wards of hospitals see a good number of young people who have been admitted as a result of violent crime. In fact, the actual number of such cases has fallen quite dramatically in recent years, although no such decrease has been seen in the number of video games being played, or in their popularity. It is also a fact that the vast majority of these young people who have been involved in violent crime are regular players of video games.

But this statistic is woefully misleading. Since ninety percent of young boys play video games, it is always going to be the case that any random selection of boys will result in the vast majority of them being regular players of video games. It would make as much sense to identify all the young boys who volunteer for charity work occasionally, or take part in fundraising, and then identify how many of them play video games regularly. Since ninety percent of all boys play video games regularly, then these fundraising charity volunteers are going to mostly be gamers - but this is not to suggest that playing video games make you more charitable, in just the same way that playing video games doesn't make you a violent thug.

Forty percent of girls play video games, which is to say nearly half, so again, if nearly half of all girls admitted into hospital after being involved in a violent crime are branded as being there because of video games, it makes as much sense to suggest that by not playing video games, half the girls have ended up in hospital.

These are the statistics that those who have a deep mistrust of video games like to publicise, but upon closer inspection, these claims are wildly unfounded, based on hopelessly meaningless figures and provided as only half the truth. In fact, there is no evidence to suggest that playing video games makes a person become violent. The home life and upbringing has far more influence on a person's social and moral attitudes that a computer game.

Finding Cheap Nintendo Wii Consoles and Games for Sale - 5 Tips For Success

If you've ever done shopping for the Nintendo Wii gaming console then you know how much of rarity it really is. Finding a cheap nintendo wii console is even harder. When it comes down to it, its about smart shopping and being tactful in your purchasing endevour. By doing so you can guarantee getting your hands a gaming system and games that fit your needs perfectly. Below are 5 tips for success when finding them and games for sale at the lowest possible price while still buying a working product.

1. Consider the source - If you are looking for a Nintendo Wii Sale from a local vendor, your likelyhood is next to nil. The benefit of buying from a local dealer is that you can usually assume that the product is new, but you are going to pay for it. Buying retail means that you are also paying for labor wages, their electric bill, taxes and probably somewhere around a twenty percent mark-up if not more for the item. Needless to say, you pay more, but for a new product.

2. Buying online is another method that may be useful, however again, consider the source. When buying online for a Wii console or cheap games, read the fine print (if any), check for notations about scratches, improper functionality, etc. Be thorough in this process......

3. Buy bundled and save! Buying a cheap nintendo wii bundle with games is a great way to get both games, accessories and the console at a single low price. Be aware though, sometimes bundles are a way of really jacking up the price. Always do price comparisons with the games and accessories to see how much of a deal you are really getting.

4. Buying second hand online can be fruitful! Buying second hand online is a great way to save big. often times people just didn't like their gaming system, or they got two for christmas, or they wanted a playstation 3, whatever the case always make sure to protect yourself. Buy insurance when applicable, ask about return policy, get all the answers befor you click (buy now). By proceeding with caution you can help ensure that you are getting a great product at a low price.

5. When buying a cheap Nintendo Wii console and games, find out why they are so cheap. Not to say you should be paranoid by any means, but do atleast bring up the question.

Simply stated when buying a cheap Nintendo Wii console for sale, you don't ask, you don't get. Finding an sale on a Nintendo Wii is very easy to do when you are both analytical and frugal. Stay sharp, ask questions, and when you see a good deal, act.

Will DirectX 10 Be Good For Gaming?

DirectX 10 is the current talk of the town in PC gaming. The promises that DX10 have made has breathed new life into PC gaming that routinely called a dying breed. It is touted as bringing a new era to PC gaming. Is all this buzz really worth getting excited about? Let's take a look...

With any brand new technology that is introduced, there is always a period where the rest of the industry needs to play catch up. It takes time before it is fully taken advantage of the way it was planned. But how long to PC gamers truly have to wait until DX10 comes into full fruition?

How long will it take before DX10 can bring gamers those amazing graphics they drool over in screenshots and videos to their own PC's in their own homes? To the layman, all of it can be very confusing. New buzz words and terms come out every year and getting a grip on what they all mean can be very demanding......

First off, what exactly is DirectX? It is a development tool made by Microsoft that lets developers make games with higher performance. Anthing from the graphics, sound, and even network functionality is developed through DirectX. There have been many revisions of DirectX, each bring about new techniques for eye candy and better performance. And now with Vista, we have DX10. Each interation brings us closer to having true gaming realism.

Within DirectX are what are called API's. This stands for application programming interface. They act as a bridge that allows the software and hardware to communicate with each other. They are what allow our games to bring us the graphics and sound we know and love.

Hardware makers like nVidia are now creating GPU's with tons more capability and power than we've seen in the past. Video cards like the GeForce 8800 provide better image quality and can even process video for Blu-ray playback. So DirectX 10 is not just for gamers, being able to process Blu-ray videos will give any entertainment enthusiast something to cheer about.

Gaming computer makers are also now creating computers that come with these DirectX 10 capable cards.Companies like Alienware, Dell, and Vigor are now in full swing in carrying a fleet of DirectX 10 capable computers.

But all this hardware isn't any good without the games to run on all of it. But don't worry. There is a whole slew of DirectX 10 capable games out now and even more are scheduled to come out in the next year. Some of the biggest games of 2007 were DX10 capable. Crysis and World in Conflict to name a couple award winners.

One of the biggest advantages that DX10 provides is power it gives to developers to develop better games easier and faster. This is good for the gamer as we'll be seeing a much wider variation in games and more to choose from all of which provide a better experience.

So is DirectX 10 still worth all of the buzz in the end? Absolutely. But, it will definitely take some time before the gaming industry catches on and us gamers see the results were are looking for. With all new technology, it takes time before you see the results that the original designers had envisioned. But, rest assured we'll be there soon!

Who Was the First Person to Make a Video Game?

The absolute earliest and first game to be played on some type of a cathode ray tube, and use some type of computer, was a missile simulator type game played on circular screen that looked much like the old radar screens used during World War II. This game was created by Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann in 1947. The creation of this game was significant because it marks the beginning of a new age of cathode ray tube and what they can be used for. Up until this point any display like this was simply used as something to be seen. With this game a player could look at it and make changes to what happened on it. It was interactive!

In 1952, what many consider to be the first graphical game was created by A.S.Douglas and it was a tic-tac-toe game called OXO. Over the course of the next two decades between the 1950's and 1960's a variety of other rudimentary games started to make appearances with the use of large computers that were tube based. One of the most notable was the game Tennis for two which was created by William Higinbotham in 1958. This game was played on an oscilloscope display......

Video games start to become more sophisticated and take on more realism in the 60's and the first game to do this was a game called Space War. It was created for a Digital Equipment Corporation computer and it was two spaceships (players) that engaged in a shootout on a starry background. One of the significant things about this game was that the ships were in a gravity well that affected how they moved and how the player had to operate them. This game has been recreated and copied in many different arcade and home versions like Galaxy Wars and in variations like Asteroids.

The First Publicly Released Game

The first game released to the mass public was called Computer Space. It was based on the Space War game and it was a coin operated arcade style game created by Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney. It was released in 1971. And in 1972 they released the arcade game Pong which was a big success. These games were the beginnings of the Atari Company.

Video Games Move onto the home Television Set

The very first console video game system that could be played on a television set at home was the Magnavox Odyssey. It was designed by Ralph Baer and it was first released to the public in 1972 and It only met with limited success. In 1975 the real revolution in video games for the home began with the release of the home version of Pong by Atari. Atari landed an exclusive contract for 175,000 units with Sears who would market it and sell It in their stores. The game was a smash success for the 1975 Christmas season. One of little thought about revolutions about this game was that all the discrete wiring was designed into a single chip which was the most advanced consumer electronics chip ever made until then. This opened up a whole new world of computer games.

Video games have had an interesting history with a lot of different people contributing to their success. They have come a long way and there are no doubt many more interesting and exciting developments to come.

What iPod Touch Games Downloads Are Out There for the Gamer iPod Owner

With the advent of the touch screen interface for iPods when the Touch came out, new features were added to the humble iPod to make it better than ever and more flexible in the realm of mobile entertainment for the person on the go. And the most compelling addition to the iPod Touch compared to other iPods before it was a whole new slew of games using the device's touch screen as controls. For the iPod owner who is also a gamer at heart, this can be a dream come true because now, not only can you play music or videos on your device, but play games and keep setting new high scores on their iPod. And the best part is that you can download and install new games on your iPod to make it even better when you play the games you want.

Types of games available for download

From puzzle games to arcade, sports games to racing, there are a lot of games available for downloading to your iPod touch so that you won't ever have to feel bored again. Games in any genre that you enjoy playing are available, most of them at a price......

There are a lot of games coming out, because to the developers the iPod Touch/iPhone is a new platform where they can develop new games or specialized versions of their bestselling titles for iPod gamers to play. You'll be able to select which games you want to get when you browse around gaming download sites. There are new titles for the iPod touch itself, and there are new reprisals of old games that are loved by most even in their simplicity, like the classic solitaire game. You can download whatever game you want and enjoy it all on your iPod.

How much you'll pay

With iPod games downloads, you can expect that there are some good games that are free to download and pay, and at the other extreme you'll have to pay upwards of twenty dollars for a chance to play your favorite game on your new iPod. But most games will fall somewhere in between, and the list price for individual downloads will most likely be in the ten-dollar range. These games will be priced squarely so that the developer will also make money, but at a price that won't have users steering away from them in droves.

However, there are also other ways that you can get games on your iPod Touch. Download sites that charge a membership fee but offer unlimited downloads for their subscription duration are way better for your wallet than having to download each game separately. Once you've signed up, all you have to do is pay the initial subscription, and then you can download whenever you want, no matter how many you want to download and put in your iPod.

Another way to get around paying for games on your device is to get the trial versions before you actually download the full version on your iPod, so that if you don't like the download, you didn't actually pay for it yet so no worries on your part. If you like it however, you can purchase the full version knowing that you'll already be satisfied with your new game on your iPod Touch.

World Of Warcraft Gold Tip - Easily Make Hundreds of Gold Every Week!

I don't know how long you've been playing World Of Warcraft, what level you are, or how many times you've tried out gold making ideas that just didn't work... Well the good news is that it's a lot easier if you know the right items to get, and how much to sell them for, and even when the best time to sell them is.

I haven't been playing since beta. I just picked this game up about a year ago when my wife got me addicted. I used to call her a dork for playing, now I have several World of Warcraft websites, a guild and my own addiction... If you can't beat em, join em.

The reason I'm telling you that is because it doesn't someone who's been around forever to have fun, make loads of gold, and run a successful guild. Anyway, back to the easiest way I know to consistently make hundreds of gold every week.

If you've been looking around for gold making ideas you've probably heard people talking about buying and selling recipes in the Auction House. Well they're right and you can make a few gold profit from selling recipes. I've been doing it for a long time, and it just plain works. But my best money maker... the hottest selling recipe ever? Well that's easily First Aid Books.

They sell fast cause LOTS of people need them, some times I'll put 5 on the auction and they're gone in an hour. There's three kinds that are sold, and you buy them for 50s - 1g....roughly. I sell mine for 3g 64s. They sell hot and I make 2.5-3g from each sale.

If you've been reading this and not trying it... then you're probably still wondering how to make gold. If you've been experimenting with it, you're probably playing the game not too worried about gold right now.

And the funny part is, half of you still won't do it! Some people are just plain lazy, and if you're like me and not afraid to put in that little bit of work, this method will pay off for you big time.

And it's EASY! You don't have to kill anyone to do it! You don't have to be a level 70, you could do this at level 1! You might get ganked a time or two, especially on your first trip, but it'd be worth it in the long run.

If you want to make any amount of money in wow, you need to be selling in the Auction House. Almost everyone knows that, and if you're new, now you know. What sells best is something that everyone needs, everyone wants, and you can get super easy for cheap.

The best part is that there are tons of items like this. First aid books are the easiest way for you to make money this way. The majority of players need these books so they can upgrade their First Aid skill and make better bandages. First Aid Books are a hot item. You can get them for about 50s - 1g and sell them for 3g 64s all day long.

How this equals 100+ gold in 30 minutes or less is it will take you about 20 minutes to empty your bags, fly, run, and buy the books, then harthstone back. The rest of the time you'll be sending them to you AH alt, listing them in the AH, and collecting your money from the mailbox.

This method has made me several hundreds of gold. at level 40 i had my mount, training, a guild with a bank tab, and several hundred more in the bank. It works, and if you're willing to do it, it will reward you kindly.

How To Connect The Nintendo Wii To Your TV

It really is essential that when you purchase a Wii, you make absolutely full use of it. But how do you do this? The most appropriate way is to connect it to an output device, a TV being preferable.

Upon purchasing a Wii, it is general practice that a multi-out plug for AV connection is included in the box. This device is imperative in order for you to be able to connect the consoles, not only to the television but also to the VCR.

How is it possible to check that your TV can connect to your Nintendo Wii? Looking at the back of your TV really is the best method. There will be present at the back of your television some colored sockets with an "Input" label. Therefore it is possible to make the appropriate connections. Exactly the same strategy applies to your VCR.

TV Connection Tips

There are a number of different things that can assist you when attempting to connect your Wii to your TV:

* AV inputs are generally round sockets which are made of metal.

* White, yellow and red are the different color types that they come in. The right audio input is relevant to the red connection. The mono sound or left audio input is relevant to the white connection. And the video input is relevant to the yellow connection. However, there are various different brands of television that only have one audio input.

* Locate the connection that is named A/V In. Do not attempt to connect your Wii to any connection that is labeled "Out". This will simply not function at all.

* When you are inserting the plugs that are found on your Wii AV cable ensure that you follow the color codes. It is necessary to turn your television to manual if there are no labels. By doing this you will find that they are generally well identified.

* The Input Select of your TV should be located if the cables are inserted into the correct connections and the Wii console is already turned on. This is when you can begin to view your favorite game. The TV remote control can be used, otherwise the front panel located on the television can simply be manipulated. The TV/Video button should be pressed. If there are many input channels, then simply continue to press the button until you locate the correct channel with the Wii console display.

For Your Computer Monitors

Many people choose to use their computer monitors rather than their televisions for playing Nintendo Wii. However, that can initially be difficult due to the fact that home consoles of Nintendo are only designed to be used in VCRs and home televisions, of course, with the assistance of RF or A/V connectors.

As computer monitors do not actually have RF or A/V connectors, then an alternative will need to be searched for. This alternative can be made by using a PC TV card. This works by inserting the TV card into your PC so that the console can be connected to the card. However, it is important to remember that the correct quality of image that you are looking for may not be received.

How to Download to PSP

So, you're a PSP game and music fan. You've got a Sony PSP and you want to play more than just games. You are probably wondering big time how you download music and films etcetera to your Sony PSP. To be honest it is amazingly easy to do. It takes only a few minutes to do each song. You could be listening to all your favorite in no time at all. Plus the coolest games available.

Firstly you cannot connect your PSP direct directly to the web unless you own a wireless router. You can however, download the PSP MP3 files from special PSP download websites, these include many great games, e-books, videos and lots of other stuff. After you have saved each file to your computer hard drive you must then transfer it over to your PSP. PSP music must be in the proper format or it will not play properly, even if you use a file that is a standard mp3 one. It still must be in the specific MP3/PSP format.

You need a special USB cable that will connect from your computer to the PSP plus a ripper program that copies mp3 music files to the Sony PSP format. A good standard software program is the CD MP3 Ripper, and this will be able to do pretty much anything you need to do. Once you have saved the mp3 files, all you need do is select from the options menu the "PSP Audio Format", and the file will be saved correctly.

There is an infinitely easier alternative to doing this manually! There are many websites who specifically target PSP downloads. They are offering ready formatted PSP music, videos and games all immediately downloadable. Some of these are free of charge (with usually quite limited choices) but the better ones have usually a single one off charge, subsequently you can download songs to your PSP, as many as you want! In addition, you get PSP videos, games and all the extras. When you join a PSP download club they will always supply all software instructions to convert normal files to PSP compatible formats. A complete step-by-step instruction showing how to convert Sony MP3 files from normal mp3 files and then put them on your PSP.

I know this for sure, I've attempted to do this manually and it took me quite some time before I got anything to work properly, and after seeing how long this entire process was taking, I just gave up and joined a PSP download site! You can do 1 song quickly, but if you want a hundred tunes, forget it.

So, do you want to begin downloading cool things to your PSP?

Key Accessories Can Increase The Nintendo WII Price

The Nintendo Wii is the hottest gaming system on the market. Even now many retailers are sold out and awaiting new shipments of this revolutionary game system with its remote sensing control system. The Nintendo Wii is a hot commodity, and like any commodity the laws of supply and demand are in play, and high demand can often equate to high prices. If you are one of the millions of people considering a purchase of the Wii System then you are probably among those for whom the Nintendo Wii price is a consideration.

Fortunately, the Nintendo Wii price is at a point that is affordable for most people, and for approximately $249.99 USD you can jump right in – almost literally – and begin playing the game that everyone is talking about. However, the $250 dollar price point only gets you the basic Wii package, which includes one game – Wii Sports – one controller, the sensor bar, and the assorted power cords needed to plug in and play. While this assortment is more than capable of getting you up and running, the $250 Nintendo Wii price does not include many items you are sure to want as soon as you tire of playing Wii Sports against the computer......

One way to avoid endless shopping for additional games and accessories is to purchase a Nintendo Wii bundle from a retailer who offers such deals. Various retailers offer bundles – all inclusive package deals – that include the Wii system as well as additional memory, additional controller, and several additional game titles. While such packages can greatly increase the Nintendo Wii price – by $200 to $400 dollars depending on the number of games and their titles – it can give you all you need, and more, to get started gaming.

The Nintendo Wii price, without accessories, is roughly $250. But it is the accessories that make the Wii such a powerful and dynamic system, and the Nintendo Wii price does not include those additional items. While new game titles will cost roughly $50 each, it is not the new games that will take your Wii to new heights; it is the add-ons. A second controller and Nunchuk - secondary controller that plugs into the primary, wireless controller; the Wiimote – will cost approximately $60. For those who wish to offset the Nintendo Wii price by continuing to play games from their Nintendo GameCube, they may need to purchase a GameCube controller if they do not already have one ($25). Further, if you want to save your ongoing GameCube games – like you could do on the original GameCube – then a memory card is needed ($25). For roughly the same prices as the memory card, an SD card – 1 GB of additional memory – can be purchased allowing you to download classic games through an Internet connection.

Like other accessories, Internet connectivity is not included in the Nintendo Wii price, and a wireless Wi-Fi USB connector is required ($100 and up). And if you want to see the fruit of your investments in the quality of High Definition, then a component video adapter is needed to deliver that crystal clear picture ($20).

After reading a list such as this one it is easy to wonder what you really get for that $250 Nintendo Wii price. The truth is that you get a lot, but if you want more – and you want to maximize the capabilities of the system – then investing in accessories that cost above and beyond the Nintendo Wii price will deliver exactly that. Fortunately, you don’t have to buy them all at once.

The Nintendo Wii is NOT the Game Cube

As Nintendo chief Miyamoto says about the Wii…

‘The hardware is basically a GC. We’ve upgraded our development tools to new versions but, you can still use GC programs as they are. With that in mind, I thought we could remake GC titles for the Wii and modify them to work with the Wii remote so that they’re more fun to play.’

This statement been making its speedy journey around the web, with the predictable result.

‘i tuld u tha Wee sux0rs!’ ‘Thus proving the Wii is infact.. a repackaged gamecube’ ‘Rofl @ Nintendo’

The argument need to be split in half to avoid confusion. Lumping the two arguments together ends in a negative situation, where neither of the debating parties can influence the opposition.

Firstly, The Wii is GameCube 1.5?

Miyamoto, in his cute little ‘Wish we had an international auxillary language to stop english speaking ‘l33t’ gamers from mocking our consumers’ way, was accurate with his statement. The hardware is similar to the GameCube. WAIT! Don’t go running away just yet, for here is a word equation that will float your boat.

The Nintendo Wii hardware is similar to the Gamecube, as A gaming PC is similar to a Windows 95 word processing computer.

What! Says you, but my ‘uber el33tzo0r’ Gaming PC has 4 GB of Ram! It has 6.7 Gigahertz of processing power! THINK. Instead of thinking about the technological specifics of ‘hardware capabilities’, when the above statement is made, one is referring to the style in which hardware and software are created. The Architecture of the device.

Going out on another tangent, Nintendo would not be stupid enough to make the GameCube mistake again. The GC was not a high point for flailing Nintendo. Why now, riding on the success of the Nintendo DS, an innovative handheld device that has taken the world by storm, would Nintendo choose to release an updated version of a failure?

Wii Vs Xbox360 Vs Playstation3

To be blatantly honest, the next-gen console battle will be fought between the Xbox360, and the Playstation3. Unfortunately for Sony and Microsoft, they have launched products capable of the same types of activities, with the same types of controls and the same types of games. It’s a marketing battle to see who will triumph. But for those looking for new, innovative [ie: Not BluRay] technology with an element of fun and a totally unique experience will choose the Wii. There is nothing else on the market to compete with it.

So who would buy the Wii? Just little kids right? Nintendo has many different demographics to target. From the very young, to the very old. The DS has opened the eyes of previously video game free generations, and inspired those just entering the market, as well as gameboy fans looking for a quality handheld. Half-core gamers want something fresh. they want to play with their friends and have fun. They don’t want to shell out big bucks for a gaming system, but would be happy to pay a much lower price for entertainment.

You can not compare consoles on specifications alone. You must use implementation examples to compare things. On paper, the Playstation 3 is the strongest console. Better than the Wii, better than the Xbox360. But does it have quality games? Will there be many games? Will Sony finally be able to create a game that creates a third of the hype that Halo does? Until all consoles have been released internationally, it is futile to argue over which console is ’superior’ and which will succeed.

The Nintendo Wii is not a Game Cube. As the old saying goes, it’s like comparing apples and oranges. Both are in the same general class, yet there are fundamental differences that make comparing them pointless.

Nintendo Wii + Wii Sports

The Nintendo Wii it seems, puts pay to the concerns in recent years over the inactivity in children due to their interest in video games consoles. The Wii console really sets itself apart from the rest with its revolutionary motion sensitive controller, which actually requires movement in order to play the games.

The Nintendo Wii comes with the game Wii Sports, which includes tennis, baseball, bowling, golf and boxing. In tennis you will be swinging the remote as if it were a tennis racket and flicking it up to toss the ball into the air with a quick swing to serve. The other Wii Sports games work in a similar way simulating controller movements for like movements onscreen. Boxing however is the only Wii Sports game that uses the nunchuk attachment and is the most physically exhausting game of them all. In order to hit your opponent in the head or body, you will have to aim high or low with your swings.

There are three different activities with each game. In training mode, you will participate in random challenges, after which you will be assigned a fitness age, based on your performance. Sound familiar? The Nintendo DS game, Brain Training comes to mind...a physical version perhaps?

The important thing here is that gamers are becoming more physically active without even realising it - you could say it has a 'kill two birds with one stone' effect, combining video game play with physical activity. Given this 'physical' nature of the Wii, I wouldn't be suprised if parents rushed out to buy the Nintendo Wii just to get their kids off the sofa!

Another great thing about the Nintendo Wii is that it appeals not only to children and teens but to adults too, so its something the whole family can enjoy.

Could the Nintendo Wii revolutionize the way we play video games in the future? It will be interesting to see what Nintendo's competitors come up with next - this could be a tough one to beat!

How To Set Up Your Wii

Now that you have fought off the nasty crowds at the electronics store, and secured your Nintendo Wii system, got it home without incident and into your house, this is what you should do. Follow these steps to set up your Wii:

1) Remove the Wii from the box
2) Remove the AV cable and the AC adapter
3) Remove the stand plate, vertical stand, sensor bar and sensor-bar stand
4) Remove the Nunchuk and Wii Remote
5) Choose your location near the TV for your Wii and set it up vertically or horizontally
6) Connect the AV cable and the AC adapter to the Wii
7) Plug the AC adapter into a power outlet. Connect the AV cable to the input on your TV. Connect the yellow cable to the video input and the red and white cables to the audio inputs
8) Get out the remote control and put in the batteries
9) Turn on your Wii
10) The onscreen instructions will appear and you will be required to choose your language, location, time of day, etc.

How to set up your Wii Control

The Wii Remotes do not automatically bond with you Wii console. You will have to tell it to do so. The remote controls and arrives with your console is prebonded, but any additional Wii Remotes you purchase will have to be synchronized with your Wii in order to work smoothly with your console. There are two ways to accomplish this: the Standard Mode and the One Time Mode.

Standard Mode

To use the Standard Mode for connecting additional Wii Remotes to your Wii system permanently follows these steps:

1) Press the power button on your Wii console to turn it on
2) Remove the cover for the batteries on the back of the Wii Remote
3) Press the Sync button inside the cover
4) Open the door located over the SD card slot and on the Wii console
5) Press the Sync button inside that compartment
6) When the LEDs on the remote stop blinking, your synchronization is complete

One Time Mode

The One Time Mode does just that and allows your Wii Remote to work with a Wii other than the current synchronized remote. This is handy when you are at a friend's house. Follow these steps:

1) Press the Home button on the Wii Remote that is already synchronized with the Wii Remote that you intend to use
2) Select the Wii Remote Settings option
3) Select the Reconnect Option
4) Simultaneously press 1 and 2 buttons on the remote that you want to sync to the Wii console
5) When the lights stop blinking and your remote vibrates your remote has temporarily synchronized with that particular Wii console
6) The attachment of the remote should be shown on the screen as well

Nintendo Wii Brings The Gym To You With Wii Fit

Nintendo has announced a new fitness game Wii Fit which is a full on exercise product set to give you more of a workout than Wii Sports, while still retaining all the fun of gaming. Wii Fit will help to keep you physically fit via a dedicated peripheral, a wireless balance board which comes with the game. There are over 40 different activities, including hula hooping, ski jumping and heading soccer balls.

The hula hooping consists of, as you’d expect, gyrating your hips with a virtual hoop onscreen and then as the game progresses, characters will throw more hoops for you to catch and rotate as many times as you can until the time runs out.

The skiing game gives you two chances to make the longest jump you can whilst keeping your balance when landing. Players can increase speed by leaning forward, the more you lean the faster you’ll go, and upon reaching the jump, you stand up straight ensuring your weight is evenly balanced for a good landing.

For the football game, you will need to balance on the board moving from side to side whilst balls are fired at you to hit back on to the field and avoiding other objects that are thrown at you at the same time.

Training falls into 4 categories: Aerobics, muscle conditioning, yoga and balance games. Players can assign their height to a profile to measure body mass index and Wii fitness age as well as monitor progress and record performance statistics.

The calorie busting fun could appeal to couch potato kids as well a non gamers, perhaps using the Nintendo Wii as a slimming tool which would be a move into the lifestyle category rather than gaming, covering the market from another angle.

Nintendo hasn't given a release date yet for Wii Fit, although its thought to hit the highstreet in early 2008.

The Most Popular RPG Computer Games

The introduction of computer games has changed that early fact significantly. Computer games have added a fresh dimension to the way in which both children and adults play either individually or collectively.

In addition computer games such as World of Warcraft Gold (WOW Gold), Guild Wars, Final Fantasy and Dungeons and Dragons have also broadened the perspective of players by introducing them to a scenario whereby resources, supplies and a variety of strengths and weaknesses of available manpower and weapons perform to create a strategic environment in which the skill and mastery of strategic thinking becomes necessary in order to win.

War has always been one of the most popular games played by children and no self-respecting male adult will likely have grown into adulthood without possessing a few fond memories of his toys soldiers. Computer games have added the dimension that was always missing with toy soldiers by bringing to life the characters that once required human imagination to conjure with. Computer games also provide realistic landscapes, strategic maps and an assortment of weaponry that begins with a club and continues into a future that can only be speculated. Coincidentally that speculation is the result of the imagination of an inventor who themselves probably have fond memories of toy soldiers and who simply wanted to go one step further and provided the virtual reality in which to do so.

Today strategic or role playing computer games are a dominant feature found inside every computer games store. Importantly computer games have come of age in that they are no longer played on a one to one basis i.e. human player versus computer. Today we have the Massively Multi-Player Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) which allows for a large number of players to interact on a virtual world.

The most popular MMORPG computer game on the planet is possibly not the one most people automatically expect - WOW Gold is certainly hugely successful with around 8 million players world-wide while Everquest a 3D fantasy game attracts around half a million players. It would be remiss not to mention the long time favourite Dungeons and Dragons which has attracted more than 20 million players world-wide and is recognized in the industry as the game that triggered the mushroom of strategy games that now surrounds us.

However the most played game on the planet is none of these. In 1998 a game called Lineage entered the market and since then has attracted in excess of 30 million players world-wide. Lineage originates from South Korea and is a medieval fantasy strategy based game that utilizes elves, knights, wizards and prince/princess characters. As an MMORPG - Lineage has proved very successful and its development into Lineage II has progressed with new updates and expansion packs every six months. Lineage II was introduced into the United States in 2004 and by December of that year the "Chronicle II: Age of Splendour" update/expansion pack arrived. By September 2006 "Chronicle 5: Oath of Blood" was being marketed. However the next update is being marketed under a new banner as "Lineage II - The Chaotic Throne" and is referred to as Interlude.

The Evolution of RPGs

Role Playing Games or RPGs have been around since before computer desktops were readily available to homes. Remember board games? These table top RPGs were very popular until dice and paper were replaced by mouse and monitor. Modern RPGs, in fact, stemmed from table top war games. The most popular war game ever was Dungeons & Dragons. This game was created by Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax, who were both fans of JRR Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings series. DND was a war game involving small groups of mid-evil soldiers.

Video RPGs or electronic RPGs were introduced in 1972. Many people believe that the first computer RPG is ADVENTURE, a game created by William Crowther. The first ADVENTURE appeared on Ataris in 1980, wherein a player could control a group of warriors to try and slay a dragon. Wizardry 1 and Ultima 1 appeared on the Apple 2 in 1981. These games launched the RPG genre as players could navigate towns and crawl through dungeons to fight monsters. Video RPGs came out in 1986 when Enix’s Dragon Quest came out in Nintendo. The combat system of Dragon Quest set a standard that is still being used by VRPGs today. Another popular VRPG was Legend of Zelda created by Shigeru Miyamoto. But the most popular VRPG ever created was Final Fantasy which was released by Squaresoft in 1987. With more than 13 stories and games out in the market, Final Fantasy’s popularity is yet to be beaten.

1988 was the year computer RPGs made its debut into households. It was the same year that Dungeons and Dragons made its move into the digital world. DND was the first CRPG to offer optional quests for characters and the ability of players to strategically control character movement during combat. The players made a party of 6 characters based on DND rules. However, it was Dungeon Masters, that allowed mouse control giving the players ability to select objects and click on enemies for combat.

When discussing RPGs, one just has to mention Blizzard’s Diablo which was released in 1996. It proved to be one of the most popular CRPGs of all times. Because of the random dungeons and different character classes available to players, it encouraged players to play the game over and over again.

Multi User Dungeons or MUDs are actually text based games which provided character creation, optional quests and a storyline. MUDs are also called MUSH’s, MOO’s or TIKI’s and is the precursor to MMORPGs. These games were most of the time done by people who loved games and had enough knowledge about programming. MUDs soon lost its popularity to console and computer games with graphics.

It is believed that Meridian 59, which came out in 1996, was the first ever MMORPG released. But it was Ultima Online that popularized this genre in 1997. MMORPGs host a large number of players, who log in to the same world to play the game. The players need a client that allows them to log into the world, which continues to exist and change even when there are no players logged in. Everquest dominated the MMORPG genre for five years until World of Warcraft came into play. Because RPGs continue to flux, companies are continually working on to improve the game, by creating new zones, quests and character classes to keep the players interested.
